Proposed Glen Lednock Wind Farm

PROPOSED WINDFARM FOR WEST PERTHSHIRE

Proposals are being developed for a new wind farm planned for west Perthshire which could benefit local businesses and the community, and help the region play its part in transitioning to net zero.

Renewable energy specialists Low Carbon is developing plans for Glen Lednock wind farm on the Invergeldie Estate near Comrie and St Fillans in Strathearn.

The wind farm, which could incorporate up to 25 turbines, is part of a wider biodiversity strategy for the estate, including woodland creation and peatland restoration.

If approved, Glen Lednock wind farm would likely be constructed between 2027 and 2029. It would help the Perth and Kinross region deliver its climate change strategy and contribute to the Scottish Government's 2045 net zero ambitions.

Low Carbon has recently appointed Jacobs UK Limited as the lead Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) consultant for the project. They will be carrying out a range of specialist studies and coordinating other expert input. Along with input from a range of statutory and community stakeholders, this will help shape the final proposals.

Onshore wind is one of the cheapest sources of new electricity in the UK and the Glen Lednock project would provide a range of economic and social benefits for local communities.

A network of 150 eco-tech enterprises has already become established in the Perth and Kinross area, covering renewable energy, local energy systems, low carbon transport and waste management.

In due course, Low Carbon will be looking to outline to local businesses the significant opportunities for the region's supply chain and the development of new skills locally to service the green economy. We will keep you updated on further developments.
