A much-loved Perthshire community hub has some added sparkle after staff from SSEN Transmission dropped in as part of a volunteering effort.
A team of volunteers from the company visited the Madoch Centre over two days to carry out a deep clean of the indoor space including children’s soft play areas, while sprucing up the Centre’s outdoor areas to make them safer and more accessible.
Based in St Madoes, the Madoch Centre offers a wide range of activities and services and plays a crucial role in tackling isolation, creating opportunities, and strengthening connections across the local community.
As well as looking a little brighter thanks to the efforts of SSEN Transmission volunteers, the Centre will soon have two brand-new picnic benches thanks to the company’s Tealing to Westfield 400kV Reconductoring project team.
These will replace existing benches that were beyond repair, and provide a lasting contribution that will give visitors a welcoming place to sit, relax, and enjoy the centre’s outdoor spaces for years to come.
The activity comes as part of SSEN Transmission’s commitment to having a positive impact on local communities where its projects are based, with a new feature on the company’s website allowing local community groups and charities to request volunteering support directly.
Shaun Hodge was among the staff who rolled up their sleeves at the Madoch Centre, along with colleagues from SSEN Transmission’s stakeholder, IT, and project teams.
He said: “We were delighted to lend a hand in brightening up the Madoch Centre, which lies just ten minutes from our headquarters in Perth and is a well-known and popular community hub.
“As someone who grew up in the Carse of Gowrie and with family still living nearby it was especially rewarding to give back to the local community and make a visible difference – on behalf of the volunteering team I’d like to thank Anthea from the Centre for the invitation, and for the warm welcome we received over both days.
“At SSEN Transmission we are committed to supporting communities in the north of Scotland where we operate, and we are proud to offer volunteering days to local groups and charities as we aim to deliver a positive impact in the communities we serve.”
