At today’s media briefing the First Minister said detailed guidance will be published this week on the UK-wide agreement for a five day window from 23 December to 27 December where rules around travel and household gatherings will be relaxed slightly.  This will enable people to form a bubble of up to three households for the Christmas period.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered the UK Government spending review today, pledging to provide billions of pounds in the fight against COVID-19.  Further information is available here.

Finance Secretary Kate Forbes said the spending review did not deliver the levels of investment required for economic recovery as the Chancellor had failed to follow the lead of countries like France, Germany and New Zealand, by bringing forward an economic stimulus package worth £98 billion. Scotland’s GDP increased by 1.6% in September, according to statistics announced today by the Chief Statistician. This is the fifth consecutive month of increasing GDP, but output remains 7.6% below the level in February prior to the direct impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Further information is available here.
