Scottish Government Daily Update Wednesday 17th February 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website has information on all the support available to businesses that have been affected by COVID-19 restrictions. We would encourage businesses to check the website for more information on what support they are eligible for and how they can apply.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

At today’s First Minister’s Questions, the First Minister announced further strengthening of Test and Protect, with advice given to close contacts of people who test positive for COVID-19 changing from tomorrow. As well as being asked to isolate for 10 days, they will be asked to get tested and if they then test positive, their contacts will now also be traced.

The First Minister also reaffirmed plans to publish a revised strategic framework next week, which will set out the data, principles and priorities that will guide a gradual exit from lockdown.

Scotland’s GDP is now estimated to have grown by 15.8% during Quarter 3, revised down from the first estimate of 16.0% published in December, according to statistics published today by the Chief Statistician. The growth in the latest quarter follows contractions of 19.1% and 3.3% in the previous two quarters. Over the year, GDP is estimated to have fallen by an upwardly revised 9.4% compared to 2019 Quarter 3.

The deadline for fishing vessel applications for the Seafood Producers Resilience Fund is 26 February. The fund provides support to eligible shellfish catchers and producers and trout farmers who have faced issues exporting to the EU and lost access to domestic food markets as a result of COVID-19.  Read more here for information on eligibility and separate applications for aquaculture and fishing vessels.

The UK Government has called on businesses to continue to support the national effort in rolling out the coronavirus vaccine, as pledges from individual companies grow. Read more here.
