Scottish Government Daily Update Wednesday 10th February 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website has information on all the support available to businesses that have been affected by COVID-19 restrictions. We would encourage businesses to check the website for more information on what support they are eligible for and how they can apply.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

Today at First Minister’s Questions the First Minister gave an update on COVID-19 statistics, including figures on vaccinations. Read the full statement here.

Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has confirmed that the Local Authority Discretionary Fund will be doubled to £120 million to allow councils to respond further to local economic pressures as a result of COVID-19. Additionally, new statistics show businesses have received £276 million through the Strategic Framework Business Fund (SFBF), the hospitality, leisure and retail top up payments and the Taxi and Private Hire Driver Support Fund since November 2020. A COVID-19 resilience fund for legal aid firms and law centres, worth up to £9 million, has opened for applications. The deadline for applications to the fund is 31 March 2021. Information on how to apply to the Resilience and Recovery Fund for Legal Aid is available online.

Transport Secretary Michael Matheson has confirmed to Parliament that all arrivals to Scotland from outside the Common Travel Area must book and pay for managed isolation in quarantine hotels to help protect against COVID-19 importation from 15 February. Read more here.

Earlier, at today’s media briefing the First Minister said all childminders who are registered with the Care Inspectorate can receive a flat rate payment of £750 to secure the sustainability of their businesses. Read the full statement here.

A Hostel COVID-19 Business Support and Continuity Fund has been established to provide financial support for the hostel sector. The fund will be open for applications from 12pm on the 17 February until the 2 March at 12pm.  Applicants who meet eligibility criteria will receive a grant of up to £10,000 per eligible hostel
