The First Minister has confirmed that the current lockdown measures will stay in place across mainland Scotland and some island communities until at least the middle of February.

During a statement to Parliament today she also said that schools will continue to use remote learning until at least the middle of February except in the case of vulnerable children and those of key workers.

The measures will be kept under consideration and Parliament will be updated following a review by the Cabinet on February 2.

Following an update to the eligibility criteria, taxi and private hire drivers who have received state benefits at any time since March last year will now be eligible for a £1,500 business support grant as long as they meet the remaining criteria. It remains the case that Universal Credit rules could see some drivers lose out overall if the grant is considered to be income by DWP.  Business Minister Jamie Hepburn has written to the UK Government to request a guarantee that taxi drivers in receipt of state benefits would not be penalised for receiving the grant.

Further information is available here.

The full eligibility criteria is available here.
