Scottish Government Daily Update - Thursday 7th January 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website continues to provide details on the assistance available as well as information and advice on how businesses can restart safely through and out of lockdown.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

At today’s media briefing the First Minister said working from home is now a legal requirement in mainland Scotland and Skye due to the ongoing COVID-19 lockdown and stressed the need for all companies to only ask people to come into work if it cannot possibly be done from home and is genuinely essential.

She said this also applies to take-away businesses and non-essential shops providing click and collect services.

Guidance on stay at home regulations that came into effect on 5 January 2021 has been issued. Read more here.

A temporary ban on eviction orders will be extended until the end of March. The extended ban will apply to all evictions in areas subject to level 3 or 4 restrictions, except cases of serious anti-social behaviour, including domestic abuse. More information is available here.


The UK Government has opened a new walk-through COVID-19 testing centre at Riverside Car Park in Wick.

The Scottish Government’s Strategic Framework is now operational, you can find out exactly which coronavirus lockdown restrictions apply to you by using the Scottish Government's postcode checker.
