Scottish Government Daily Update Friday 8th January 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website continues to provide details on the assistance available as well as information and advice on how businesses can restart safely through and out of lockdown.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

At today’s media briefing the First Minister reiterated it is now illegal for anyone to travel to or from Scotland unless for essential purposes and confirmed people travelling to Scotland from overseas will be required to present a negative COVID-19 test before they embark upon their journey. Work is ongoing with other parts of the UK to confirm a start date for the requirement, which will be in addition to existing quarantine measures.

She also said the vast majority of learning and teaching of college and university students will be online only until at least the end of February and students should stay at home, rather than travelling back to campus or term-time accommodation.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine has become the third vaccine approved by UK medicines regulators after meeting the required safety, quality and effectiveness standards, with doses being delivered to the UK from spring. Read more here.
