Scottish Government Daily Update Friday 19th February 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website has information on all the support available to businesses that have been affected by COVID-19 restrictions. We would encourage businesses to check the website for more information on what support they are eligible for and how they can apply.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

At today’s media briefing the Deputy First Minister said that parents who have been working at home should continue to do so - ahead of children returning to early learning and childcare, and to primaries 1 to 3 on Monday.  He said that employers had a legal obligation to support parents in this regard.

Businesses eligible for the January top up grant from the Island Equivalent Payment Fund should apply by 22 February. Payments will be issued automatically to those who have already applied for a monthly payment from the fund and are eligible for a top up. More information is available here.

 

Self-Assessment taxpayers will not be charged a 5% late payment penalty if they pay their tax or set up a payment plan by 1 April due to the impact of COVID-19. The payment deadline for Self-Assessment is 31 January and interest is charged from 1 February on any amounts outstanding. Normally, a 5% late payment penalty is also charged on any unpaid tax on 3 March but this year HMRC is giving taxpayers more time to pay or set up a payment plan. Read more here.
