Scottish Government Daily Update 09 March 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website has information on all the support available to businesses that have been affected by COVID-19 restrictions. We would encourage businesses to check the website for more information on what support they are eligible for and how they can apply.


The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

Today the First Minister gave a statement to Parliament where she confirmed changes to the current lockdown restrictions.

  • It is intended the law will be relaxed to allow up to four adults from two households to meet locally in any outdoor space, including private gardens, for exercise and social and recreational reasons, from Friday 12 March. Young people aged 12 to 17 will be able to meet outdoors in groups of up to four people from four different households.
  • It is also intended that outdoor non-contact sports and group exercise will also resume for adults in groups of up to 15 people from this date. Young people aged 12 to 17 will be able to participate in outdoor non-contact sports, and other organised activities in groups of up to 15 and travel across local authority boundaries to participate in such activities.
  • Should progress suppressing the virus continue, the Scottish Government intends to reopen places of worship with attendance limits increased from 20 to 50 where there is space for social distancing on Friday 26 March. A final decision will be taken on Tuesday 23 March ahead of Passover, Easter, Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

More than 95% of Basic Payment Support, Greening and Young Farmer payments have been made four months ahead of regulatory requirement. Rural Economy Secretary Fergus Ewing welcomed the progress and commended Scotland’s farming community for their hard throughout the pandemic.

Following a rise in the variety of phone scams reported since the beginning of the pandemic, Trading Standards Scotland is offering free call blocking devices to protect those most at risk. More information is available here.
