Scottish Chamber of Commerce: National Security and Investment Act Policy Update
National Security and Investment Act Policy Update
The U.K. Department for Business, Energy and Industrial recently oversaw the biggest shake-up of UK’s investment screening regime in 20 years through the passing of National Security and Investment Bill which recently received Royal Assent. Following an update from the U.K. Government, it is understood that the new screening regime established by the Act is expected to be implemented in Autumn 2021.
The legislation modernises the UK Government’s powers to investigate and intervene in potentially hostile foreign direct investment that may jeopardise UK national security. Whilst the new regime will not affect the vast majority of investments, SCC have complied the attached policy update document, for the Networks information and onward distribution.
