Star Award Scene Setters
Meeting the team behind this year’s glittering Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Star Awards
The stage is being set for the district’s most glittering awards ceremony as Perthshire Chamber of Commerce counts down to the 2017 Business Star Awards sponsored by Binn Group.
Once again, a raft of professionals has been engaged to ensure the top business awards black tie dinner and presentation ceremony on Friday, November 24, is a night to remember.
Chamber Chief Executive Vicki Unite said it was a case of “calling in the experts” to create something worthy of the galaxy of Business Stars who would be crowned on the night.
“The Business Star Awards now has a tried and tested team of experts who deliver 100 per cent for us time and time again,” she said. “Their skills and expertise are what make our awards dinners so special and we work really well as a unit.
“Everyone - from the staff pouring drinks to the guys working the sound and lights - has a pivotal role in the ‘show’ and they really care about the event and want it to go well. Their commitment really adds value and quality to the night and makes it a lot of fun for everyone involved behind the scenes as well.”
An audience of around 400 will dine and delight in this year’s high-profile Awards event unaware of the weeks of work put in by the preparation and delivery team.
“Most of us have worked together for years and we always try to raise the bar each time,” explained Vicki. “Everyone brings something special to the mix and goes the extra mile to deliver a special event. It’s their professionalism that helps make this event the highlight of the local business calendar.
“It’s not only a night to recognise and reward the best businesses in the area, it’s one of the biggest business networking events in the year and also a great night out thanks to our top team on the night.”
Bringing what promises to be another five star Awards event together are:
Venue - Crieff Hydro:
Crieff Hydro is one of Scotland’s leading corporate resorts, with over 200 4* hotel bedrooms, and 50 3-5* self- catering units set on a 900 acre Perthshire estate. There are six food outlets and over 60 indoor and outdoor activities on site from high-ropes to horses; quads to laser quest and tennis to trekking. The business welcomes up to 1000 customers a day and employs over 630 staff.
Crieff Hydro is predominantly a short break leisure destination, welcoming guests from across the UK and central Europe. The hotel also offers 12 flexible function spaces hosting large corporate events, meetings and outdoor team building too. The resort is also a popular destination with day visitors with its 18 hole golf course, Riding Centre and Action Glen adventure centre.
The Chamber and the Star Awards both play a key role in supporting the Perthshire business community. Allowing businesses to network, develop and grow together in forum with common goals and values.
The Business Star Awards are an important factor in recognising business excellence within Perthshire. Often it’s too easy to focus on what’s ahead without taking some time to look back and celebrate our achievements.
Event hosts - Maureen Young and Gordon Bannerman
Seasoned presenters Maureen Young and Gordon Bannerman team up to host this year’s black tie event.
The journalist duo, who worked together for over 20 years at the Perthshire Advertiser, renew their working relationship to steer the Business Star Awards safely through a fun-filled evening.
Maureen, who has co-hosted the glittering ceremony for the past seven years, is looking forward to the latest stage pairing.
“It’s been terrific working with a selection of personalities on the Star Awards stage over the years,” she said. “Each one brings something different to the pairing and I’m sure Gordon will fit the mould perfectly.
“It will be great to exchange banter with my old friend and hopefully the audience will appreciate our unique verbal swordplay.”
Gordon, who like Maureen has diversified into PR consulting, is no stranger to the Awards gala night, being a former Chamber director and regular attender at the event.
“We really look forward to the PCC Business Star Awards,” they agreed. “It’s a night of high drama and excitement and everyone is there to enjoy themselves and have a good time. Even those eagerly and nervously awaiting the outcome of the judges’ decisions relax and just enjoy the night - whatever the outcome.
“Our job is to keep the night flowing with just the right mix of gaiety and gravitas,” added Gordon. “So while we ensure that the business side of things is treated with appropriate decorum, we’ll make sure there’s a bit of fun thrown in to the mix as well.”
“It’s wonderful to witness the very well deserved accolades being made to the local business Stars,” they said, “and to see how well supported the event is by the wider business community which recognises the need to encourage and support others as they aspire to even greater heights.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone on November 24 and to seeing what names are on the coveted trophies this year.”
