Queen's Awards Open for Entries - Perth and Kinross Businesses Urged to Enter

It is well-known that one of the roles of the Lord Lieutenant is to nominate individuals for honours, such as MBEs however, it is not so well known that businesses can nominate themselves for the business equivalent, The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise.

Stephen Leckie, The Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, who is also President of the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce, is very enthusiastic that local businesses are rewarded for their contribution to commerce and would like to encourage businesses within Perth and Kinross to consider nominating themselves for the most prestigious business awards in the UK, which were first established in 1966.

To quote the Lord Lieutenant “Perthshire is full of exciting and innovative businesses and what would be a better way to be recognised and rewarded for their contribution to the local economy, than to celebrate with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise? The benefits of these awards are huge, and it would be fantastic to see some of the outstanding local businesses rewarded for their efforts in this way. While many businesses are closed or struggling just now, applying for an award may be the perfect way to give themselves a boost and use this time to prepare an application.”

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are free to enter and are open to businesses in every sector. Applications for the 2022 awards will open in May 2021 and close in early November 2021. Whether a small business with a great innovative product, or a larger company running an impressive social mobility programme, these awards are a significant way to recognise a company’s contribution to enterprise.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise recognise outstanding achievement by UK businesses in the categories of:
• Innovation
• International Trade
• Sustainable Development
• Promoting Opportunity (through social mobility)

Stephen also states “The very process of entering can be a worthwhile and fruitful process in itself, revisiting the catalyst to create the business, how it has developed and its aims for the future. Global competition is becoming tougher and applying for, and receiving an award, presents an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage going forward.”

If your company wins, you will be:
• Invited to a Royal reception
• Presented with the award at your company by the Lord Lieutenant, the Queen’s representative;
• Able to fly The Queen’s Awards flag at your main office, and use the emblem on your marketing materials including packaging, advertisements, stationery and website
• Given a Grant of Appointment (official certificate) and a commemorative crystal trophy
