Scottish Government Daily Update Thursday 28th January 2021

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website continues to provide details on the assistance available as well as information and advice on how businesses can restart safely through and out of lockdown.

The UK has now left the European Union, this update will highlight developments around Brexit that will be of particular interest to businesses.

At today’s First Minister’s Questions the First Minister gave an update on COVID-19 statistics, reiterating that lockdown restrictions will continue until at least the middle of February. Read her full statement here.

Finance Secretary Kate Forbes presented the Scottish Budget 2021-22 to Parliament, announcing support for jobs and skills totalling around £1.1 billion. Retail, hospitality, leisure and aviation businesses will get 100% non-domestic rates relief extended for at least an additional three months and the poundage has been reduced to 49 pence saving ratepayers more than £120 million and delivering the lowest poundage in the UK.

Two new roles will be created at trade and marketing body Seafood Scotland to help companies better understand the new business practices to export to the EU and Northern Ireland, including the customs and export certification processes.
