Gov.Scot: Economy COVID-19 Communications Update - 28 Oct 2020

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website continues to provide details on the assistance available as well as information and advice on how businesses can restart safely through and out of lockdown.

At today’s media briefing the First Minister gave an update on coronavirus cases and advised that tomorrow there will be formal confirmation of which areas of Scotland will be in which level of the framework from the 2nd of November.

Scotland’s GDP is confirmed to have fallen by an unrevised rate of 19.4% during Quarter 2, according to statistics announced today by the Chief Statistician. This is the second consecutive quarter of falling GDP, following the contraction of 3.2% in Quarter 1. Compared to the same period last year, GDP is estimated to have fallen by 21.9%. Figures out today show a 6.4% increase in the amount Scottish businesses spent on research and development in 2018, compared to the previous year. This outstrips a 3.9% rise across the UK. The full publication can be read here.

People who have downloaded the Protect Scotland app will now be able to continue using it if they travel to Northern Ireland and Jersey.

From today, the first phase of this interoperability means that Protect Scotland will continue working when people are required to travel for essential reasons to Northern Ireland and Jersey. Work continues to make the Protect Scotland app interoperable with other contact tracing apps. An agreement has been reached so that the NHS COVID-19 app used in England and Wales and Beat COVID Gibraltar will join Scotland’s federated server in early November.
