Gov.Scot: Economy COVID-19 Communications Update - 23 Oct 2020

This update from the Scottish Government directs businesses to the most up to date information on COVID-19 as we move forward with our economic response.

The Find Business Support website continues to provide details on the assistance available as well as information and advice on how businesses can restart safely through and out of lockdown.

At today’s media briefing the First Minister launched a five-level framework which will refresh the strategic approach to suppressing Covid-19 outbreaks.  Further information can be found at Coronavirus (COVID-19): Scotland's Strategic Framework and from the strategic framework news release.

Ongoing financial support is set out in the framework and will be available to businesses that are required to close or those that remain open but affected by restrictions.  More information is available from the financial support news release.

A final version of the strategic framework is being debated in Parliament next Tuesday (27 October) following further consultation. Details of which local authority areas of Scotland will fall under which levels will be announced before coming into force on 2 November.

The First Minister’s full speech is available here.

Tourism Secretary Fergus Ewing has welcomed the recommendations of the Scottish Tourism Recovery Taskforce which have been published today.  These include close working with the sector on necessary planning, advice and adequate compensation packages if evidence based restrictions are required in future and extending the business rates holiday for specific affected sectors and regions by another year.  The Scottish Government will now consider the recommendations.

A new collaboration between the Scottish and UK Governments is to see voucher funding joined up to make more money available to subsidise the costs of building gigabit-capable broadband networks in remote areas of Scotland. Further information is available here.

The Transport Transition Plan has been updated to set out more details which can be found here.

Safer workplace guidance is released on a sectoral basis and can be found here.

Guidance for businesses looking to offer support for the ongoing effort to tackle the Covid-19 emergency can be found here.

The NHS Inform coronavirus webpage is the fastest way for people to get the latest health advice and information.
