Scottish Government: COVID-19 Funding Plea, 23 May 2020

Finance Secretary Kate Forbes has urged the UK Government to provide certainty when announcing funding for Scotland to tackle the Covid crisis.

The UK Govenment is NOT now awarding the £60 million funding consequentials under the Barnett Formula which was committed to the Scottish Government's Covid business response on May 2nd. In addition to that, the £35 million earmarked in respect of the charity support direct grant was reduced by The Treasury at a later date to £25 million.

Ms Forbes stated that although she appreciated and valued the productive working relationship, she has now committed to spending £70 million that we have now been told we will not receive, and when given mixed messages and the funding position changes, it is deeply problematic.
