Circular Tayside to help businesses transition towards a circular economy.
Businesses in Perthshire are enjoying the benefits of the circular economy with the continuation of a partnership support programme. ‘Circular Tayside’ is a joint initiative being delivered by Zero Waste Scotland, Perthshire Chamber of Commerce and Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce. Building o the work the chambers did, Vaso Makri joined the Chambers in August 2019 in a new role as Circular Tayside Manager. With a strong academic background in Economic Development and Planning, Sustainable Development and Environmental Politics at various European institutions, and several years of working and volunteering in environmental organisations, Vaso joined the team to help local businesses transition towards a circular economy.
The Circular Tayside initiative follows a research study commissioned by Zero Waste Scotland that has identified the economic potential of circular economy opportunities in the region. The savings were found within the priority sectors of: Food & Drink/Agriculture, Manufacturing, Energy/Oil & Gas and Construction where all have the potential to make significant savings. You can find the report here.
Vicki Unite, Perthshire Chamber of Commerce CEO said:
"Perthshire Chamber of Commerce has a long history of supporting local businesses at every step of their journey. We are very happy to deliver this Zero Waste Scotland project and help our local businesses transition from the linear to the circular model, a transition that offers plenty of opportunities for innovation, profit generation and long-term environmental sustainability. Our businesses will be able to join the international circular arena and benefit from the private and public funding as well as the profitability of circular markets.”
The Circular Tayside project now aims to help local organisations get access to Zero Waste Scotland support in order to transition towards a circular economy. The support covers access to Zero Waste Scotland expertise, as well as the Circular Economy Business Support Service and the Circular Economy Investment Fund.
The Circular Tayside programme also aims to raise awareness of circular economy business opportunities, facilitate upskilling and collaboration amongst local businesses and provide support to help businesses capitalise on local projects.
