One of Scotland’s leading waste management companies proved it is top of the heap after being crowned Perthshire’s best business.

Glenfarg-based Binnwaste Management lifted the Perthshire Chamber of Commerce 2012 Business Of The Year title at a glittering Star Awards ceremony in Crieff.

Managing director Allan MacGregor and delighted staff from the 12 year old family business celebrated after securing the Contribution to Sustainability category trophy and going on to claim the overall trophy and title.

Around 300 guests heard how Binnwaste Management captured the judges’ vote for its “vision, growth and innovation”.

The business – set up by father and son John and Allan MacGregor as skip hire company Binn Skips – has developed and grown into a business leader based on quality of service, value for money, reputation and reliability. It employs around 80 people. Throughout its impressive growth, the company has retained these qualities with a loyal base of clients returning time and time again.

Chamber President Stephen Leckie said:
“The raft of services available for industrial, commercial and private hire clients has seen Binnwaste Management develop into one of Scotland's premier waste collection operations, offering an impressive all round waste management solution service.

“Judges had no hesitation in selecting this impressive family run local business as an outstanding overall winner.  Their commitment to helping the Scottish Executive achieve its Zero Waste To Landfill directives through investment, training, innovation, education and front line services has made them a blueprint for industry standards.”

A delighted and proud Allan MacGregor said the award reflected the efforts and achievements of everyone involved at Binnwaste Management.
“To be judged the best in the business against impressive competition from the cream of Perthshire companies is testament to the hard work and commitment from everyone from frontline operators to sales and management,” he said.
“This award is for them all.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved at the Binn Farm complex and have ambitions to further develop our operations and offer a continually evolving and enhanced service for our customers.  Winning this award in our local business community is really special.”

Stephen Leckie also presented a Highly Commended Runner Up Certificate to Graham Environmental Services for coming a close second for the Perthshire Chamber of the Year title.

Chamber Chief Executive Vicki Unite reflected on a “fantastic event”.
“It was a fabulous night and it was great to see the business community get together to celebrate this year’s top achievers.  We know from experience that there can be a real business benefit for winners – and finalists – and that is the underlying reason for our Star Awards.  Winners and finalists have a tool that sets them apart from their competitors and this is extremely valuable – particularly in such testing times.”

Anne Smith, MD with event support sponsors Castlecroft, said she had been “extremely impressed” with the standard of winner this year.

“Perthshire Chamber of Commerce Star Awards continue to deliver a showcase for some of the best businesses in the area and Castlecroft is delighted to support an event which allows us to recognise and reward their outstanding achievements.”

This year’s premier business awards event was held at the Crieff Hydro Hotel and was hosted by journalist/broadcaster Maureen Young and Radio Tay’s Gary Robinson. Musical entertainment was provided by live band Big Vern ‘n’ The Shootahs.
